I am fascinated by folklore, and my Almanac collection of contemporary art prints is a result of my research into British celebrations throughout the year. I have selected the festival of Lammas as my starting point for this unique cream, yellow and orange contemporary screenprint . Built up over multiple layers, I use various screenprinting techniques until I am happy with the composition. You can see the whole collection here.
Lammas is the first harvest of the year. Lammas falls at the start of August and the name comes from the Anglo Saxon festival of ‘Hlaefmass’ or loaf mass. The god Lugh was the Celtic sun god and August is the month sacred to him. Customs associated with this time of year include circle dancing. This mirrors the movement of the sun in the sky, as a kind of sympathetic magic.
